What is Clear Protein?
Protein and weight loss go hand in hand. This macronutrient is necessary for maintaining muscle mass and good bone health, lowering your risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease, and even supporting your metabolism and feelings of fullness.1,2,3
Protein can be found in animal products such as meat, eggs and dairy as well as in some plant-based sources like beans, tofu, nuts and pulses. In order to reap all of its benefits, we recommend getting at least 60g of protein into your daily diet. However, it can be difficult to get in that amount of protein if you’re following a lower calorie diet or if you have a busy lifestyle that doesn’t allow much time to prepare protein-rich dishes. That’s where protein supplement drinks may come in handy.
Benefits of protein drinks
You’ve likely heard of protein shakes and drinks, as they’re popular supplements used widely to help with nutrition intake and muscle mass maintenance. They contribute towards your daily recommended protein intake in one simple drink, generally just shaken or stirred into water or milk.
There are many benefits of opting to use protein drinks as part of a weight loss journey:
- They’re convenient: Protein drinks often simply involve adding a powder to milk or water, so they can act as an easy nutrition source when you’re on-the-go or without adequate cooking resources.
- They may help reduce body fat: A 2022 meta-analysis found that protein supplementation may help improve body mass index, body fat mass and reduce waist circumference when combined with a reduced calorie intake and resistance training.4
- They’re filling: Protein shakes are great to have alongside meals to boost their nutritional value and to keep you fuller for longer. As protein can help you to feel fuller for longer, this can support weight loss efforts by reducing cravings later in the day.5
That said, a downside of many protein shakes is that they’re often too rich for some people’s tastes, or packed with artificial ingredients. Not only that, but some protein drinks can be fairly high in calories, which is unhelpful if you’re trying to lose weight on a calorie deficit. The Fast 800’s range of protein shakes and drinks are made with natural ingredients in low-calorie servings. For those who prefer a more refreshing protein drink over a creamier shake, our Clear Protein is a great option.
What is ‘clear protein’?
Clear protein has become increasingly popular in recent years as a convenient protein supplement drink for those who prefer a lighter, more refreshing water-based option over traditional protein shakes, which often have a creamy consistency.
It’s most commonly made using whey or collagen, with whey being a more well-rounded and faster absorbed protein source.. The Fast 800 Clear Protein has a base of whey protein isolate which has been purified to result in a clear appearance when mixed with water. This does not greatly change the protein content, but it does result in a lighter, refreshing drink.
When it comes to clear protein, there are a few key things to be aware of. Many brands use additional ingredients like antifoaming agents in their clear protein drinks to reduce the level of foam produced while stirring or shaking the product. To support a healthy lifestyle while supplementing with clear protein, it’s important to choose a brand that has natural ingredients, and does not use artificial products like antifoaming agents, artificial sweeteners and artificial flavours. This was vitally important to us when developing our own Clear Protein.

There are many reasons you may choose clear protein to supplement your intake, but here are just a few:
- They’re super refreshing: Many people find clear proteins more thirst-quenching than traditional milky protein shakes.
- Low in calories: Clear protein is often low in calories. Our Clear Protein contains just 69 calories per serving, making them a great option for fasting days or those looking to lower their daily calorie intake.
- It’s fast-absorbing: The Fast 800 Clear Protein is made with whey protein isolate, which provides a high percentage of protein for every gram. It’s also a fast-absorbing form of protein, which means it’s generally well-digested and can get to where its needed in the body.
- Easy to make on the go: Protein drinks are very convenient options for busy days when you need a nutrient boost and can’t otherwise easily make a nutritious meal. Given you only need to add water to clear protein, it’s ideal to take on-the-go.
The Fast 800 Clear Protein
At The Fast 800, we decided to develop our own Clear Protein drink (available currently in the UK only) for those who prefer a lower calorie, refreshing drink, rather than traditional protein shakes.
We chose the classic Apple and Blackcurrant flavour combination to create a deliciously thirst-quenching beverage that provides more than a quarter of your daily recommended protein in just one 69-calorie serving. It’s ideal to enjoy following a workout or to take out and about with you, and is even better over ice as a refreshing cold drink in hot weather. We recommend enjoying alongside a simple salad or bowl of Greek yogurt with fruit. With no added sugars or artificial ingredients, you know it’s good for your body and for your tastebuds!
