Looking for a healthy alternative to a comfort food favourite? If you ever have days where a burger is on your mind but if you don’t want to reach for carb-loaded junk food, try this Smashed Burger Wrap instead. In this recipe, we opt for a wholemeal tortilla in place of a classic burger bun, and lean beef mince so you can curb that craving without sacrificing your health goals.
These hearty wraps pack in over half your daily recommended protein so you know they will fill you up and keep you energised until your next meal. While in a classic burger the star might be the beef mince, the real heroes in these wraps are the accompanying toppings. Crunchy cos lettuce, juicy cucumber and creamy avocado smash add flavour as well as nutrients to your meal, including Vitamins K, C, and E, potassium and magnesium. These keep your blood pressure regulated, your skin hydrated and your brain healthy, to name a few benefits.
Our Smashed Burger Wraps are fun and easy to make, so feel free to get the kids involved in the kitchen with this one! Serve with extra salad or sauerkraut, and top with a dollop of sour cream for the ultimate family-friendly meal. Plus, they can be frozen in raw patty portions ready to defrost and cook when you need a convenient, home-cooked dinner ready to go.

Ingredients
- ⅛ onion, diced
- ½ garlic clove, finely chopped
- 100g lean beef mince
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- 1 small wholemeal tortilla
- ½ tbsp olive oil
- 20g cheddar cheese, sliced or grated
- ¼ avocado, mashed
- ¼ tomato, diced
- ⅛ cucumber, diced
- ¼ baby cos lettuce, shredded
Instructions
- Mix the onion, garlic, beef and oregano with some salt and pepper, and roll into one ball per serving. Flatten each ball onto a tortilla so it covers most of it.
- Heat a frypan on medium-high and add half the olive oil (portion it out if making multiple serves). Place the wrap meat side down on the frypan and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
- Brush the top of the tortilla with oil, then flip and cook for a couple of minutes to brown. Add the cheese to the top of the meat to melt a little.
- Take wraps off the heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Top with the remaining ingredients, fold them up, and enjoy! Add some extra seasoning if needed.

Notes
- Serve with extra salad or some sauerkraut if you wish, delicious with a dollop of sour cream.
- Make it family friendly! Fry the burger patties without the wraps and use wholemeal burger buns instead. Add a side of roasted sweet potato or potato ‘chips’. Get everyone to assemble their own burger with preferred fillings.
- Store leftovers separately in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat the meat and tortilla, assemble and serve.
- Batch prep and freeze the raw meat patties in portions for up to 2 months. Defrost and cook with fresh tortillas.
