“I haven’t felt so well in years” – Janet’s 25kg weight loss story
Janet’s life turned around when she was confronted with an unflattering holiday photo. Where Janet’s journey started
Janet was feeling low, physically and mentally, and knew she wasn’t being the best version of herself. It was then that she found out her cholesterol was off the chart, and Janet knew that being overweight herself put her at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Janet’s daily diet before versus after The Fast 800
- Breakfasts before the Programme: Typically go out for large breakfasts of bacon, eggs, and toast, or pastries and milky cappuccinos.
- Breakfasts now: Coffee with a small amount of milk, fasting day recipes like chocolate chia pudding or Blueberry and Apple Porridge, and easy recipes like Sweet Potato Fritters with Salsa.
- Lunch before: Convenient sandwiches either made at home or bought from a shop. Then lots of snacks throughout the day, including chocolate, biscuits, cake, toast with peanut butter.
- Lunch now: Filling soups, like our Chicken and Lentil soup, and no snacks needed throughout the day.
- Dinner before: Cheap frozen dinners and Japanese takeaway once a week.
- Dinners now: Favourites include The Fast 800 Beef Kofta recipe, flatbread with salad greens and tomato, Chilli, and Parmesan Crumbed Fish.
I have seen significant positive results in my health. My cholesterol is within normal range, as are my blood sugars. Indigestion gone. It’s fabulous.
Where is Janet now?
Janet has lost a total of 25kg since starting her weight loss journey, but she started to notice results after just a couple of weeks. Her indigestion and headaches reduced, and her energy levels started to rise. After a couple of months, she had brought her cholesterol down from a high 8.0 to a healthy 4.9. She managed to bring blood sugars back into the normal range, reverse her fatty liver, as well as reducing her triglycerides to 1.1 from 3.5.
Not only that, before following the Programme Janet had to take an antacid tablet after every meal and needed to lie down after eating pasta or a slice of bread. Now, following her dedication to The Fast 800 Programme, Janet’s indigestion and chronic headaches are non-existent.
For Janet, it wasn’t just about how much weight she was losing, and the vast physical benefits she found, it was also about how she was feeling mentally. She hadn’t felt so well in years; she became calm, self-assured, and motivated, and finally found herself again.
I haven’t felt so well in years. It’s not only the weight loss but a feeling of calmness, being self assured, and knowing that this has been all me! It’s a road that I know will always be a challenge but one that I now have the tools to navigate it.
A Q&A with Janet
Is there anything, aside from the diet changes, that have made a real difference to your journey?
“The nightly meditations have been something that I have embraced 100%. I do the same meditation from The Programme every night and I’m asleep in five minutes. The mindfulness aspect has been such an integral part of my journey. I have looked at this programme as ‘mind, body and soul’, incorporating lots of self care along the way. I have found that I am important and that I need to learn to put myself first.”
What are your top tips for someone who wants to make a change but doesn’t know where to start?
- Take all the positives from the Community and Coaches on the Programme and get on this amazing journey. Understand that we all lose weight at different rates and we shouldn’t compare ourselves to others.
- Follow the meal plan, but remember that it’s ok to swap out a recipe if it doesn’t fit you. You need to enjoy the food or you will quickly lose interest.
- Batch cook to save time and waste.
- Stop snacking: for me, this has been a real game changer and still is.
- Make sure you take time for YOU. Self-care is so important and something we should practise regularly. You will thank yourself for putting yourself first.”
Was there a way Dr Michael Mosley inspired you and helped you in your journey?
“Michael was a very inspirational man. He never put on those airs and graces and looked down at you [and] treated the people with such warmth and kindness. He didn’t make you make you feel like you’re a terrible person for eating that chocolate bar or whatever. He has made such an impact on so many people [and] has saved so many people from an early death. I hope that he knew that he had an impact on so many people. He was incredible, it gives me goosebumps just talking about it.”
