Hannah lost 3 stone (19kg) – “If you stick to it, you will see results.”

When 49-year-old Hannah began experiencing chest pains back in 2019, she decided it was time to make a change. She was determined to enjoy an active family life with her husband and teenage sons, and after signing up to The Fast 800 Programme her hard work paid off. How Hannah’s journey started

In 2019, Hannah felt she’d hit a ‘mid-life slump’. She was weighing 13 stone (82kg), her clothes were feeling tighter and she was struggling with low confidence. Her self-consciousness about her weight led her into unhealthy cycles of comfort eating, using sweet treats like cake and biscuits to try and help her feel ‘better’. That was until she started experiencing chest pain.

She approached her GP who advised her to try an exercise routine. However, it wasn’t until a family holiday to the Lake District that Hannah decided to take the plunge and change her lifestyle.

In April 2024, we had a family holiday which involved lots of walking and I found myself ‘huffing and puffing’ and really struggling with the hills. I was hot, sweaty and very out of breath. It was then that I decided it was time to make a change – this time for good. I knew that I wanted to lead a long, healthy and mobile life with my family and so I needed a total re-set that I would be able to maintain.

Hannah carried out her own research to find the best scientifically proven approaches that focused on maintenance and longevity.

I assumed that a day consisting of only around 800 calories would leave me feeling hungry, but that wasn’t the case at all.

Watching the weight fall off

As you become more familiar with the principles, you realise it’s quite flexible. For example, this week the family wanted pasta and meatballs. They like beef mince with some spaghetti so rather than do something completely different for me, I swapped the pasta for courgetti spaghetti. It didn’t take much more effort and again, I didn’t feel like I was missing out.

While enjoying delicious, healthy food, Hannah dropped a stone within a month. Not only that but she found her fitness was transforming as well.

As well as throwing herself into the diet aspect of The Fast 800 Programme, Hannah also began to follow the programme’s exercise videos. She gradually found herself becoming less short of breath, and found that simple pleasures like gardening became more enjoyable again as she became more agile.

Where is Hannah at now?

At the start of the programme, Hannah had given herself a target weight of 10 stone (63.5kg), which was the weight she was when she got married 19 years ago. Incredibly, she has now hit that goal and is continuing on by moving into The New 5:2 phase.

“You can be given all the tools, but if you’re not ready to commit then you’re less likely to see long-term results. If you stick to it, you will see results. Commit to the whole programme, not just the healthy eating. I really embraced the articles and the exercises and learned a lot about my health, nutrition and fitness, which long-term has helped the habits stick.”

As well as the weight loss, Hannah’s biggest transformation has been a mental one as her newfound confidence and energy has meant she can enjoy more time with the people she loves. Last summer, she enjoyed a family holiday to Croatia where she felt confident in her skin wearing fewer clothes in the warmer weather, and she’s now looking forward to a skiing holiday next year where her new energy and fitness is sure to keep her going on the slopes!
