Low Carb Fish Recipes

Fish is a staple food in a Mediterranean diet. It’s a rich source of lean protein and contains countless essential nutrients, making it a powerhouse food to eat as part of a healthy diet. Whether you’re a fan of seared salmon or flavourful anchovies, all fish is good fish in our opinion, which is why we use a variety of it in our Programme recipes. Fish is loaded with essential nutrients, which is why many low carb fish recipes are so nutritious. From protein, to vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, it contains many of the key vitamins, minerals and macronutrients your body needs to thrive.

It’s an excellent source of quality protein, containing all the ‘complete proteins’ and amino acids the body needs but cannot produce itself. Tuna, salmon and mackerel are particularly high in protein, with tuna containing around 26g of protein per 100g. Additionally, fish contains beneficial vitamins like vitamin D, which is a fat-soluble nutrient that many people lack, but is essential for good bone health.1 It’s also rich in omega-3 fatty acids that are crucial for healthy brain and body function, reducing the risk of many different diseases.2 The omega-fatty acids in fish have even been linked to a reduced risk of mental health issues, like depression.3

There really are countless reasons to try making low carb fish recipes so that you, too, can reap its many benefits.

Can you eat fish on a low carb diet?

Yes, fish is an ideal food to enjoy as part of a low carb diet. When you reduce your carbohydrate intake, your body flips the metabolic switch from burning carbs for fuel to burning fat instead. Eating foods like fish, which are high in protein and healthy fats are ideal for keeping your body fuelled during this metabolic change.

As well as fish, there’s a wide variety of delicious foods you can enjoy as part of a low carb diet. Foods that are rich in protein, fibre and healthy fats are what to look out for, including:

Parsley and parmesan white fish

These ricotta fritters are a member-favourite, and for good reason. Topped with smoked salmon, it’s a low carb fish recipe that serves up over 40g of protein per portion, making it ideal for a luxurious lunch on a low carb diet. It really is sure to keep you satiated until your next meal.

Keto cauli-rice kedgeree

Kedgeree low carb fish recipes are excellent ways to include smoked fish into your diet. It makes for a flavourful, filling meal which also provides plenty of protein and omega-3 fatty acids to keep you energised and nourished, all while remaining low in carbohydrates and calories. It’s certainly one to give a go.

Grilled Salmon and Avocado Salsa

Avocado and salmon are both rich in healthy fats, so are important to include in your diet on a regular basis. Thankfully they are absolutely delicious too!

Pot roast prawns
